Growing Four Legs

It’s basically finding your center in a newly-fitted body.
One day, you wake up,
scratch your head,
and wonder
why you don’t quite fit anymore.

In a mind of one,
you suddenly
think of another.

A day’s schedule
suddenly
becomes longer.

One’s vision
suddenly sees
the nuances
of a stare,
the blink
of eyes,
the curve
of lips.

One’s skin
suddenly
feels the difference
between
the warmth of a hand,
and the graze
of fingertips.

Time stretches
with a bit more uncertainty,
but one steps forward
a bit bolder,
with more even steps–

times two,
times two–

twice the distance
trodden,
vision paired
with sight.

This new form
becoming familiar,
and finding
that the center
that lay in one,
now lies
in between.
